Readers will wonder what’s this? What am I saying and why I am saying it today?
These are nothing but other words of the so-called the synonyms for a very common and a known term i.e ‘Big’.
Big, because it’s titled “Big Bigger or the Biggest Data“.
“Data is the new science. Big Data holds the answers”.
So starting it here! Do you know what is Big Data?
Firstly, just get clarified with the term Data.
“Data stands for distinct pieces of information, usually formatted in a special way.
Data can exist in a variety of forms, such as numbers or text on pieces of paper, as bits and bytes stored in electronic memory, or as facts stored in a person’s mind”.
But ‘Big Data’ can’t be stored in a person’s mind because it consists of extremely large data sets that may be analyzed computationally to reveal patterns, trends, and associations, especially relating to human behavior and interactions.
It is being progressively used almost everywhere in this world- onto the internet and off the internet too. It is not a big deal. The publicity, the advertising, the promotions and the exposure made it big even bigger. Yes, it is big and this whole huge term ‘Big Data’ can be sum up very easily and pretty well in few V’s.
Volume is how much data we have – what used to be measured in GB’s is now measured in ZB’s (Zettabytes) or even YB (Yottabytes).
IoT (Internet of Things) is creating rapid growth in data.
Velocity is the quickness with which data is reachable or accessible.
Variety describes the variety itself of various types of data.
Variability is different from variety. In simple language, it explains how the data varies.
Veracity is all about making sure the data is correct and accurate, which requires processes to keep the bad data from accumulating in your systems.
Visualization is touch-and-go in today’s world.
It uses graphs, diagrams, and charts to visualize large amounts of data. Last but not the least,
Value, it is the final stage which takes a lot of resources, time and efforts after going through volume, velocity, variety, variability, veracity, and visualization.
You want to be sure your firm is getting utmost value from the data.
So here, I will conclude the end. Hope you find it useful and this was just a drop from the pitcher.
“Information is the oil of the 21st century, and analytics is the combustion engine.”
