13 Reasons Why Season 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed Netflix series, based on Jay Asher’s novel of the same name. The show was adapted by Brian Yorkey in 2017 for Netflix, with Selena Gomez as its executive producer. The first season of the American Teenage Drama was released around the same time last year. It seemed like everyone was only talking about 13 Reasons Why. The series addresses sensitive, but important topics such as bullying, sexual harassment, loneliness, slut-shaming, abuse and more.
It received praise from some, and hate from others, for it’s graphic depiction of suicide, rape and other traumatizing content.
The story line, cinematography, script, musical score and more have all been well-received and won awards.
13 Reasons Why Season 1 Recap
The series revolves around Hannah Baker, a student of Liberty High who recently committed suicide – and the 13 audio tapes she left behind revealing why she killed herself. Furthermore, the tapes are given only to people who had a role to play in her suicide. After each person finishes listening to the tapes , they must pass the package on to the next person.
The series is beautifully structured. Each tape specifically focuses on a central character or incident which tells Hannah’s story.
Clay Jensen, the kind-hearted protagonist of the show was a close friend of Hannah’s. Post her death, he is obsessed with finding out what happened to her. The first season culminates with him succeeding and learning of all the events that lead up to her suicide – and who all were responsible.
13 Reasons Why Season 2 picks up shortly after where the first season left off – and takes us further down the rabbit hole.
13 Reasons Why Season 2
The second season of 13 Reasons Why dropped recently on Netflix – and fans cant wait to see where the story goes from here.
The first episode starts with characters introducing themselves and cautioning the viewers about the sensitive content. Season 2 is set a few months after the events and incidents of the last season. It starts with the Baker’s in the courtroom as they sue the school for their role in Hannah’s death, ignoring her pleas for help and not doing enough to stop bullying.
Season 2 unveils many things which viewers didn’t know like Hannah’s relationships with boys, the secrets she kept from her parents and much, much more. Every episode this season, is based on testimonies from one of Hannah’s classmates, in court – similar to the last season, except, testimonies have replaced the tapes.
The second season of 13 Reasons Why definitely keeps everyone interested by showing different points of view of the story line and delving further into the plot of the first season.
13 Reasons Why focuses on sensitive and very important issues like abuse, bullying, self-harm and suicide. These topics are considered taboo and aren’t discussed much in public. However, the team behind 13 Reasons Why believes that depicting these graphic scenes, showing the mental and emotional torture that bullying does, and more, is important to changing the mindset of the masses and making more people understand that these are very real problems that we face today. In season 2 ,these themes are focused on even more strongly. Some of it is difficult to watch, yes. But it is important to know and understand these things.
I highly recommend this show to each and everyone of our readers
