Avengers Infinity War Review – Expect The Unexpected

Avengers Infinity War Review – Expect The Unexpected

The biggest and most anticipated film of the decade is out in theatres which is the Marvel Studio’s Massive Superhero mashup – Avengers: Infinity War.

As a long-time comic and pop-culture nerd, I was very excited for this movie.

After a lot of anticipation and fan theories over past few months, I had the privilege of watching this Epic movie on the big screen on the first day!

So, here’s my review and breakdown of Avengers: Infinity War.

Potential Spoilers ahead! You may want to turn back if you want to watch the movie spoiler-free. (I recommend it, as it will blow your minds off)

What’s the movie about?

Alright, you’ve decided to not turn back, So here we go …

I’m not gonna reveal the whole plot, but simplify it so that everyone can understand it.

The movie kicks off immediately following the events of Thor: Ragnarok, revealing Thanos and his black order killing all the Asgardians aboard, except Thor, Loki, Hulk, and Heimdall. Thanos reveals he already has the Power Stone, has a head to head with Hulk and defeats him easily. Heimdall gives up his life sending Hulk to Earth and then Thanos threatens Loki to give up Space stone or else face the death of his brother. Ultimately Loki gives up and gets killed too.

The rest of the movie is a Heist Movie where Thanos has to get all the Six Infinity Stones so that he can erase half of the Universe’s lifeform with a snap of his fingers(That’s a direct reference to the famous Infinity Gauntlet Comic Arc).

Thanos then heads to The Collector and captures Reality Stone, where half of Guardians of the Galaxy meet Thanos and Gamora is taken away by her stepfather Thanos because she knew where the Soul stone is hiding. On the other hand Thor heads to Nidavellir, a place where Universe’s most powerful weapons including his hammer Mjolnir and Infinity Gauntlet were made, along with Teen Groot and Rabbit AKA Rocket Raccoon and forges his new weapon Storm Breaker, too powerful that it can even summon Bifrost with the help of the dwarf played by Peter Dinklage.

On the Earth, Hulk crashes and tells Tony and Strange all about Thanos.

But by the time he finishes, New York is attacked by a Space Donut (as called by Tony Stark in the movie), with Ebony Maw capturing Doctor Strange for the Time Stone and eventually Tony and Spiderman(who is on a field trip to someplace nearby the attack) follow and sneak into the ship, which ends up on Titan, home of Thanos.

For a strange reason though we cannot see Bruce turn into Hulk the whole movie (Hulk rejects coming out by saying “No”).

Then Bruce Banner calls Steve Rogers AKA Nomad (Cap’s Alias in the Comics where he loose hope in his country) to find Vision and Wanda Maximoff AKA Scarlett Witch, but by the time Nomad arrives Proxima Midnight and Cull Obsidian(Black Order) shows up again to retrieve the Mind stone from Vision and hurts him badly, buts fails to retrieve it as Nomad and Black Widow holds them off. All of the group including Bruce Banner, Rhodes (War Machine) and Falcon heads to Wakanda, the only place Vision can be healed without destroying the Mind Stone.

Back to Thanos, where he threatens Gamora the life of Nebula in trade of Soul stone’s location. She takes him to Vormir, where the Soul Stone is guarded by none other than Red Skull (Oh yeah! I got my mind blown on this one, Well done Marvel!). But as to acquire Soul Stone, he has to sacrifice someone he loves, ultimately ending up sacrificing Gamora.

Now with four stones he heads to Titan, where the Guardians, Tony, Spidey and Strange fight Thanos almost ripping him off the Infinity Gauntlet, but due to the rage of Star-Lord losing his girl(A nerve crackling scene!), Thanos gets loose and defeats them all, stabbing Tony Stark and trading the Time Stone from Strange for Tony Stark’s life(Doc. Strange says he’s seen a million of possible future outcomes and they only win one in the before scenes)

Back in Wakanda, there’s a massive fight between rest of the Avengers with a backup of Wakandan Army and the Black Order with a backup of Outriders (A race of alien assassins), for protecting Vision and the Mind Stone. But when they are almost failing, Thor enters the battlefield using his new Stormbreaker Axe (My favorite scene in the whole movie) wreaking havoc among the attackers.

Then Thanos enters Wakanda for the last stone and greeted by the Avengers, but easily holds them off except Nomad for a while, but it’s not too long till he gets bashed in the face.

Vision convinces Scarlett Witch to destroy the Mind Stone before Thanos acquires it and she does it, but Thanos reverses the time and gets the Mind Stone back killing Vision.

Finally, Thanos gets hold of all the Infinity stones giving him infinite power.

Thor makes an entry by stabbing Thanos with his Stormbreaker, but by that time he already snaps his fingers causing half of the universe’s life get erased and teleports himself to a place somewhere in-universe and watches Sunset.

By the effect of snap, Half the entire universe gets banished from the Universe ( Perfectly balanced as it should be..!) including Black Panther, Spiderman, Strange, All the Guardians except Rocket, Bucky, Scarlett Witch, Falcon (Nick Fury and Maria Hill as shown in post-credit scene where Fury sends a distress signal to Captain Marvel) all disintegrating into particles and erased from existence.

This leaves us to the end of the Infinity War!

Why should we watch this movie?

It is the biggest movie in maybe decades, with its Massive cast and Stellar performances and Huge CGI makes this movie so good that watching once is not enough to digest it! The emotions between Wanda and Vision, Peter and Tony were heartbreaking. Not to mention the relation between Thanos and Gamora!

The way Josh Brolin played his character was simply stellar.

Benedict Cumberbatch was born to play Doctor Strange. Robert Downey Jr. has proven that he’s the Godfather of MCU once again. Chris Evans as Nomad and Chris Hemsworth’s Thor were stunning and Guardians are funny as hell as they’ve always been.

The character of Thanos has really gotten into my mind. He’s the best Anti-Hero of Marvel till date. A Villain (I don’t like calling him that) who is smart and has a perfect cause for his acts of destruction. It really seemed plausible to me that what Thanos was doing is perfectly right in his point of view.

So, get out of your houses, grab the tickets and watch this Epic Celluloid in largest screen format possible.

But just remember one thing…Dread it, Run from it, Destiny still Arrives all along!

We have to wait another year for the untitled Avengers 4, but there is Ant-Man and Wasp to catch up this summer, which may feature Hawkeye too, so let’s wait for it…

Final Verdict: Don’t miss the Movie of this Decade!

Rating: 9 out of 10 Stars
