“Smart phones and social media expand our universe. We can connect with others or collect information easier and faster than ever.”
Democracy is involving the concerned people in the decision making. As described by Abraham Lincoln, It is the government of the people, by the people and for the people. And how exactly would people be involved in the decision making? By the flow of information among the people. Since the information era has ushered, Democracy has seen many phases in its course. The information era has led to many revolts, changes in the recent times. It brings a kind of transparency in the entire process by making every piece of information accessible to the common people. Microsoft also believes in this concept and hence wants to democratize Artificial Intelligence.
Why Microsoft is interested in Democratizing Artificial intelligence?
It believes that humans have a limited a range for absorbing the information and hence wants to expand these horizons. This is done assisting humans with artificial intelligence. Microsoft wants to combine the thinking strength with computational power to over this constraint, to make the world a better place.
Four-pronged approach to Microsoft AI and how to democratize AI?
- Harness artificial intelligence to fundamentally change how to interact with the ambient computing, the agents, in our lives.
- Infuse every application that we interact with, on any device, at any point in time, with intelligence.
- Making these applications available to every application developer in the world.
- Microsoft is building the world’s most powerful AI supercomputer and making it available to anyone, via the cloud, to enable all to harness its power and tackle AI challenges, large and small.
Microsoft president Brad Smith and EVP of AI and research Harry Shum have told Business Insider that Microsoft is in a position to lead AI research and development, and that they are working to “democratize AI” by sharing what they learn with competitors and the public.
Reaching a greater goal
Microsoft has already started this mission by improving Microsoft’s Cortana who has about 12 billion queries and 133 million active users. She is becoming smarter about the world, and becoming smarter in terms of her understanding of you, the world around you, and importantly, the ability to put that information into context. Microsoft’s other applications such Microsoft Pix, MileIQ and Swiftkey. Microsoft also introduced Microsoft Graph that integrates all the devices and services to enhance productivity.
Another area where Microsoft will be experimenting is providing us with a virtual assistant that would work as a smart search engine i.e. it will troubleshoot our problems and as well as learn the different problems and issues and predict their solutions. This is possible by making every applications intelligent, it can essentially see, hear, predict, learn and take action. Now this will be available in form of APIs which are the building blocks of Dynamics 365, etc…
After making the applications, we have to make them intelligent. For this we need a Bot Framework, that would infuse intelligence into these applications. For example, brands like Uber, which uses face recognition APIs in Cognitive Services to enhance their mobile applications, and ensure passenger safety.
But over the course information changes and likewise the related questions, troubleshooting, solutions etc. For this, Microsoft has come with a different type of technology i.e, re programmable chips which have flexibility while not compromising on the efficiency and speed.
By introducing democracy in the field of AI, it is possible that the future that we see about artificial intelligence seeping into our societies and helping this race achieve greater heights.
