WhatsApp Joins The Fight Against Fake News
We have seen many times and sometimes even forwarded some messages that were spam through WhatsApp, so in order to stop spreading of these spam/fake messages WhatsApp is testing a new feature which will notify users if the message has been forwarded many times or if you are about to forward one of these messages Techcrunch reported.
The upcoming feature will not tell users that the message is spam or fake but if you will receive any message which has been forwarded many times you will see “Forwarded Many times” under the sender’s address. In case if you are about to forward any of these messages you will see “A message you are forwarding has been forwarded many times” at the top of the forward screen. A company spokesperson declined to comment on any of these rumors as of now so it’s not clear that whether WhatsApp has any plans of implementing this feature in the coming months or not.
This new feature could be a very useful one especially considering the things that have occurred due to fake messages spreading through WhatsApp in 2017. One such incident was that where people were getting messages to pay for the service for further use. Another such incident was when people started receiving legitimate-looking documents that can download malware into your device if you open the document.
Stopping fake news in social media has been a topic of debate for quite a while. Recently, Facebook conducted a test on News Feed and they found out that most of the news was actually fake. For all the latest trends, tech news, & reviews follow us on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook
